When opening the depot, PPL CZ focused not only on its sustainable strategy, but also implemented a unique project for revitalisation of the land and countryside surrounding the newly opened facility.

PPL has once again taken a major step forward in terms of parcel forwarding, the opening ceremony for its brand-new regional depot in Kostelec nad Černými lesy having being held this November. The new depot in the Central Bohemia region which occupies an area of 19,000 m2 will help to fortify network density and augment the daily capacity of the nearby central transshipment centre in Jažlovice by an impressive 15,000 parcels. These parcels will be handled by a state-of-the-art sorting line stretching a total length of 543 metres.

The depot in Kostelec marks the fourth major step which we have taken towards enhancing our network density over the last year. This expansion of our infrastructure brings us significantly closer to our valued customers and consumers, thereby reinforcing both the quality and capacity of our network. Consequently, this also strengthens PPL’s standing and importance on the market. Thanks to our forwarding capacity, we are well-equipped to deliver top-tier service to our customers with the utmost speed and efficiency. We are ready to seamlessly integrate the new Kostelec depot into our network, ensuring its operational efficiency right from the word go and its support for the unique structure of the stable and flexible network operated by PPL. At the same time, we are ready to manage not only seasonal challenges, but also to honour the agreements we have entered into and to meet customer expectations,” says Petr Basák, Sales Director at PPL CZ.

The depot in Kostelec nad Černými lesy is poised to create up to thirty new job opportunities in the Central Bohemian region along with another hundred jobs in related transport and warehouse roles. The vehicle fleet operated by PPL CZ will be bolstered by 60 new vans dedicated to handling of operations in the new depot.

The plot of land on which the depot in Kostelec nad Černými lesy now stands has been given a new lease of life

In conjunction with opening of the new depot, the leading parcel forwarder also focused on revitalisation of the surrounding countryside which belongs to the property. The company played an active role in cleaning and restoration of the pond as well as planting trees and other vegetation. The plan is also to establish a green roof on the office part of the building, which will be planted during the coming spring. The land around the new depot has been revitalised as a whole. “As part of our long-term commitment to implementation of a sustainable strategy, we have transformed this space into a place which now serves not only as part of the PPL logistics network, but which also helps the environment and can on top of that be used by the local community. With its focus on energy efficiency and environmental friendliness, the new depot in Kostelec nad Černými lesy represents yet another flagship of PPL CZ’s commitment to a sustainable strategy,” says Petr Horák, CEO of PPL CZ.

Other sustainable features include interior and exterior LED lighting, solar water heating, a solar-ready roof, and chargers for electric vehicles. In the future, PPL is considering other improvements, including improving the access road and installing a pier at the pond.
